Florida Cancer Control Efforts
There’s no limit to what we can accomplish when we work together.
The Florida Department of Health works aggressively to lessen the burden of cancer in the state. It seeks to increase access to treatment and support for all residents, regardless of economic status and healthcare coverage, and to reduce the suffering and mortality rate associated with cancer.
The agency oversees a network of four key initiatives working toward these goals:
The Florida Cancer Plan focuses on:
- Organizing the state’s cancer control initiatives
- Cancer prevention efforts
- Improving access to timely diagnosis and treatment
- Cancer survivorship aid
The State Cancer Councils include:
- The Cancer Control and Research Advisory Council
- The Florida Cancer Plan Council
- The Florida Biomedical Research Advisory Council
- The Regional Cancer Control Collaboratives
- The South East American Indian Council
The Florida Comprehensive Cancer Control Program:
- Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- Coordinates in-state collaborative efforts between public and private partners
The Regional Cancer Control Collaboratives:
- Include six regional divisions
- Work to meet the goals of the Florida Cancer Plan on a local level
- We are one of these, serving East Central Florida
